5/6 Band Performance
Congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 band students who put on a spectacular concert for their families and guests last week. It was wonderful to have families back in the school and we look forward to a more connected year in 2021. A special mention to our year 6 students who achieved the pinnacle of school band mastering the most complex of songs. This is something for our year 5 band to aspire to. It was lovely to see the students and acknowledge and appreciate the work of Belinda, creating bands from scratch year after year is not easy work!
Staff Transferring for 2021
Over the coming weeks our school community will be farwelling some long term staff members coming to the end of their placement at Ngunnawal. Ngunnawal wishes the very best to Larry, Eloise, Julie, Ione and Lucy. Tenille will also be leaving our school for an interstate move.
Parent Engagement Project
Through the parent engagement project we have received lots of feedback on how we can improve our home school partnerships. Some of these suggestions included being explicit about learning at home and using the different platforms we have to communicate. Attached to this newsletter are our next two fact sheets about our school approach to Home Learning and Seesaw Expectations.
Transitions and Class Placements
We have commenced transition planning for our students who require additional support. All students in K-5 will receive a slip in week 10 letting families know their teacher for 2021 and room location.
Our current preschool families will receive an email about our staggered start which will include the name of the teacher.
Any 2021 preschool families who were not able to make it to a parent teacher meeting can collect their child's information pack from the front office between 14 and 18 December.
2021 Day 1 Temporary Procedures Years 1 to 6
We are mindful of planning for our returning students on Tuesday 2 February and the many families bringing students to school. At present, we will be asking cohorts to meet in different locations. The plan will remain flexible and any adjustments required due to COVID restrictions in February will be communicated to families.
Preschool will go directly to their classrooms for their second day.
Kindergarten will line up at their rooms for their second day.
Years 5 and 6 will meet their teachers on the basketball court.
Students based in the LSU can go directly to classrooms.
Years 1 to 4 will use the four corners of the courtyard:

Activities at Gungahlin coming to Ngunnawal Oval
Next year, Ngunnawal Primary School will be partnering with Northside Community Service to bring the Ngunnawal community ‘Activities @ Gungahlin’. Every Wednesday (during school terms) Northside will be hosting a FREE afternoon of sport/activities. There will be many different sports to try.
Come along to a taster afternoon on Wednesday 16 December on the school oval. Children must be accompanied by an adult to participate.
Any questions? Please contact Nat Munoz, our Early Years Engagement Partner or Northside Community Service.
The hard-to-have conversations
Talking with your child about tricky personal subjects.
Perhaps your child has been bullied online, sent or received an intimate image, or come across pornography online. Conversations about experiences like these can be difficult.
When you talk to your child about personal subjects, you are trying to balance a number of different things:
- respecting your child’s privacy while still making sure they are safe and happy
- giving them space to test their own problem-solving skills online but supporting them as they make their own way
- educating them about people’s different personalities but knowing you can’t make their choices for them
- establishing boundaries while being understanding and open
