Term Overviews
This term, teachers of year 2-6 will be compiling a term overview outlining the learning content to be covered throughout the term. This will be emailed to you by our front office staff early next week. Specialist teachers will also be completing a term overview to be emailed to families.
Preschool to year 1 classes will continue to receive the fortnight ahead. As always, if you have any questions about your child's learning, please reach out to their teacher.
Class Placements 2024
In the coming weeks you will receive an email seeking your input into your child's class placement for 2024. When completing the survey, please condsider good learning partners for your child. Later this term, classroom teachers will be constructing classes for 2024 based on your feedback and their professional judgment of children and combinations that will have the most success.
Before school supervision
Throughout the year we have noticed a number of students arriving at school before 8:30am. Where possible, we encourage your child to arrive at school as close to 9am as possible. Please note there is no supervision at school before 8:30am. We request that your child does not arrive at school prior to 8:30am.
Phones and Smart devices
If your child brings a phone to school, they are expected to bring these to the front office, as soon as they arrive at school, for safe keeping during the day. Students sign their device in, which are then stored in individual pouches and signed back out at the end of the day.
It has also become more common for students to wear smart devices and watches. Whilst we appreciate the advancing technology, we would prefer these are not worn to school. If they do so, we ask for your help in reminding your child that these devices are not to be used for communication during the school day. If you or your child need to be in contact throughout the day, this communication can be made through the front office team.

Writing
In Writer's Workshop, year 1 have been using the writing process to construct narratives about their lives and creating imaginative stories. Students have been visualising their thinking, sharing it with their writing partner and then illustrating and labelling their ideas. In the drafting stage, students have been writing without interruptions to support independence and the development of stamina. During the revision stage, students have been adding character talk, adding interesting words and reflecting on their writing to ensure it makes sense. During the editing stage, students have been using their knowledge of high frequency words and the connection strategy to make meaningful attempts at spelling. During the publishing stage, students have selected a piece of writing to publish and share with peers.

Reading
Year One have been learning to retell a variety of texts including nonfiction texts during Reader's Workshop. When retelling fiction books they have been using the language of: first, then, and next to structure their retells. When retelling nonfiction texts students have been identifying the topic of their book, recalling facts and creating a wondering about the topic.

Number
In maths Year One have been learning about money. We have been learning to recognise and describe the features of all our Australian coins. Through working with coins we have found that each coin has a head of Queen Elizabeth II and a tail with a picture specific to the value of the coin. In our study of Australian coins we have found that dollars and cents have a specific symbol.
Strand
In strand, students have been learning about location. In this learning, students have been exploring and learning positional language to be able to give directions to familiar places including around the classroom. Students have then been able to continue using positional language to give directions and follow directions when using a map.

Science
In Science, students have been exploring various habitats and understanding the essentials for the survival of living things. Their learning journey has been enriched by using a diverse range of resources. These include informational books from our school library, digital books accessible through the Epic reading app, and the use of QR codes to access informative videos. Through these research activities, students have been able to deepen their understanding of local and native animals. This includes gaining insights into their habitats, identifying their needs to live, and even engaging in drawing and labelling the unique features of these animals.

Health and PE
As part of National Health and Physical Education Day, Year One students enthusiastically took part in a day dedicated to promoting wellbeing. During the event, students delved into discussions about the five essential food groups and the daily servings our bodies require, including listing some of their favourite foods from these groups. In addition, students had a blast with exciting physical activities like sack racing and participating in 'Jump Rope for Heart,' a Heart Foundation program that encourages physical activity and heart health.
