Dear families,
We wish our families moving on from Ngunnawal Primary School all the best with their new schools. We especially acknowledge those of you who have been a part of our school community from preschool and now have children transitioning to high school settings. We hope all of you have a restful break and look forward to reconnecting with everyone returning to NPS next year.
Thank You Volunteers!

A big thank you to Sarah, Bruce, Chantel, Rochelle, Steven C, Gabriella, Stephen T, Rachel, Nadean and Ryan who have represented our community in positions on our P and C and School Board in 2023. Book Packs 2023
The school is trialling a new method or sourcing book packs which reduces shipping waste and keeps the cost to families low. We are happy to accept payment for book packs after Christmas to ease financial pressure at this time of year. We do require all families to pay for the book pack which will be delivered directly to the school to ensure we can continue this model in future years.

Maths- Fractions Unit
Over the past term year 6 have had a focus on fractions and completed a range of hands on and digital activities to showcase their understanding throughout the unit. Students have learnt to locate nonrelated denominators on a number line and apply their understanding of related fractions when adding and subtracting. Students learnt about the connection between the powers of 10 and the multiplication and division of decimals. Year 6 concluded the unit by demonstrating their understanding of the connection between fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Electricity
Year 6 has delved deep into our inquiry unit on electricity and renewable energy production. We have learnt a lot about how we can make considered choices for a sustainable future, which is encapsulated through each student's Google Site they created. We have explored concepts such as: circuits, insulators vs conductors, energy transformations and energy productions. Year 6 students have had some great immersive experiences to aid their understanding, including designing and testing their own wind turbines with The Academy of Future Skills and visiting the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre to learn more about hydroelectricity.

Scientific Methods
Year 6 has been exploring and learning how to conduct experiments and write their own Scientific method reports. The students have been developing their understanding on how to write a successful report using factual language and scientific terminology. Students learnt about wind turbines during inquiry and tested their abilities as well as writing about what happens when molten salt is added to water. The year 6 cohort also crafted their own stomp rockets in inquiry and tested their capacity to fly and documented their findings in their own scientific method report.
The P&C would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that supported us this year. It was a very busy year with many fundraisers and events and we could not have done any of them without the help of our volunteers. Your support is invaluable and greatly appreciated.

Help with the cost of schooling and everyday essentials
All ACT public schools can help families meet the costs of schooling or everyday essentials – such as personal hygiene products including sanitary hygiene items, school uniform items, book packs and stationery, school excursions, camps, transport and enrichment activities.
Part of public education’s important objective is making access to education more equitable for all students, regardless of personal circumstances. If you are experiencing a situation that affects your ability to meet the costs of schooling or everyday essentials for your child, we encourage you to talk to us. Families who are looking for help with the costs of schooling can:
- talk to the school principal or other staff member about their situation
- have a relative, caseworker, friend or advocate make contact on your behalf
- contact the Education Directorate ETDStudentWellbeing@act.gov.au.
