Spotlight on Learning - Preschool
The preschool classes are exploring life cycles of plants and Silkworms. Our silkworms are tiny and over this term we will notice the changes in their life cycle. We are also connecting to Country by observing wildlife and learning about plants and flowers we find on Ngunnawal Country.
As most of us are nearing the end of preschool, we are reflecting on all that we have learnt this year. This term we are learning more about kindergarten expectations with our Kindy transition visits and adding a fruit break into our routine each day.
This term has seen Gula begin an investigation into plants and seeds. We have explored the parts of plants, how they grow and their life cycle as well as planting our own seeds (from fruit and veggies) to grow. The children have taken a very keen interest in the dramatic play area where they have been pretending to be a florist, buying and gifting flowers to their friends. Outside the children have been very busy in the garden, planting seeds from home as well as weeding the garden to ensure the plants are able to grow.

Guginya- This week we have been exploring with Silkworms. We have been taking observations of what we can see and the changes in our silkworms as they grow. We have also been investigating the silkworm's life cycle.

In Koori Pre we are interested in learning about the life cycle of a silkworm. We have explored what they eat and had discussions about what silkworms look like, feel like and how they move. We have been preparing our garden beds to be ready for week 6 when we welcome Aaron from Dreamtime Connections. He will be coming in to create a Bush Tucker garden in our preschool space. This is part of the Ngadyung Program and is sponsored by Icon Water. We look forward to learning about different bush tucker plants and caring for Country.

In Balbo and Mundawari classes, we started the term learning about writing letters and posting them in the classroom post office. Spring has brought us to learn about flowers, and the life cycles of silk worms and plants. We planted bean seeds and we are recording our observations as they grow. We made a classroom florist in our dramatic play area and are learning about different flower names as we read books and create individual floral art pieces.

Bunduluk - We’re going on a bear hunt!! We have been having fun with this story. We have set up a storytelling table with all the obstacles that crop up in the story and many children have been taking the dolls on a bear hunt. Thanks to all the children who helped to write many of the descriptive words and phrases from the story. We have also been reading ‘The colour monster’, discussing emotions and drawing our own monsters.

Karrugang- The class has been learning about seeds and how they grow. We collected seeds from different fruits and vegetables and planted them in soil.
