Positive Behaviours for Learning
PBL
Positive Behaviour for Learning at Ngunnawal Primary School is an evidence based whole school systems approach that looks like:
- Consistent behaviour expectations
- Consistent language and approaches to support positive behaviour choices
- Explicit lessons used to teach behaviour expectations with opportunities to practise appropriate behaviours in the classroom and on the playground
Our whole school expectations are:
Be Safe
Be Respectful
Be a Responsible Learner
Over the course of our PBL journey, we have developed the specific behaviours that are expected for each of the three whole school expectations. These are our ‘All settings’ expectations, as they are applicable in all areas of our school. These are displayed prominently around our school accompanied by an area specific set of expectations.
In the past two weeks, classes have been focussing on creating their specific behaviour expectations for their classroom, and on developing positive classroom environments that promote learning and support all learners. Please make sure you ask your child about their classroom expectations, and we strongly encourage you to use the same language at home to build consistency between the home and school environment.
You child may also mention that they received a ‘Yunggi Bengal’ for a positive behaviour choice. Yunggi Bengals are a key part of our PBL Acknowledgement System. When a student receives a certain number of Yunggi Bengals in each of the 3 school expectations, they will receive an award, their name in the school’s newsletter and a leaf on our PBL Tree of Excellence located in our corridor near the front office.
