We have been very impressed with how well the students have settled back into normal routines. Thank you and well done to our families who have prepared the students for such a smooth return. Our staggered start and finish times have certainly helped with less congestion in the carpark. I thank you for all your support in following our requirements. I am sure you are also enjoying hearing the adventures of the day from your children as they return home from school.

World Teacher’s Day
Thank you to our wonderful P and C volunteers for recognising our teachers on Friday. It was a wonderful gesture that brought many smiles and was certainly appreciated by the team.

Classroom Furniture for Years 3, 5 and 6
The final phase of our furniture replacement plan includes years 3, 5 and 6. Below you can see the items for each cohort which can be configured in many ways to suit the needs of the class. This furniture will arrive in January 2022. We are pleased to be able to donate our existing furniture to schools in need. Pacific Assist has sent over 160 shipping containers to islands such as Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu, Kiribati, and Papua New Guinea.
New Classrooms
Our building expansion project with 4 relocatable classrooms and a toilet block is progressing. We have had Project Managers appointed this week who have been out to view the site. We aim to have the buildings completed ready for the 2022 school year.
Satisfaction Survey
The survey is now available for completion. This gives us important feedback about how we are tracking in the eyes of our school community. Families will receive a second email with the link by the end of this week.
NAPLAN Results
Students in Years 3 and 5 will bring their individual results home this week.
We are particularly impressed with our school reading growth data from year to year for year 5. It is beginning to reflect or focus on all students demonstrating growth and achievement in reading.

What will Term 4 look like?
Transition Week
The first week will be much like the start of the year with a focus on reconnecting, establishing expectations and having fun with peers.
Assessment and Reporting
We do not wish to bombard the students when they return with assessment. Reports will reflect what we know about students up to and including the remote learning period. We have considered learner assets and capabilities (e.g. communication, problem solving, self-managing) as a focus for ongoing assessment to share in general comments.
Learning
When students return, we want to balance structure and familiarity within an environment that fosters socialisation and enjoyment for learning. After transition week teachers have planned for:
- Literacy
- Numeracy
- Design Challenges
The design challenges incorporate a range of subject areas and have been developed to give students an opportunity to have choice, creativity, and opportunities to collaborate with their peers.
ICAS Competitions Years 2-6
We have rescheduled most of the ICAS competitions to occur over the next few weeks for those students who had already registered. Unfortunately, the testing window for the writing test has closed. Tests will occur in each of the bubble locations.

Thank You Chantel!
Our amazing and wonderful canteen manager Chantel is moving on from our canteen.
Chantel has been with the canteen team for 8 years and during that time has built the canteen into an amazing, healthy and affordable service that is so important to our school community. We can’t thank Chantel enough for her dedication, patience and hard work not only for the canteen, but for the P&C and the school as well.
We know the students will miss seeing her face everyday. We are sad to see her go but are very excited for what is next for her. We wish her the best of luck and know she will do amazing things going forward.

Spotlight on Learning Kindergarten
Investigations
During investigations, we have had opportunities to play together, reconnect with our peers, cooperate, communicate, problem solve through various table activities.

Bounce Back
In bounce back, we have been learning about how talking to a trusted person can make us feel better when we are feeling sad and that nobody is perfect.

Positive Behaviours for Learning
We have been revisiting our classroom expectations of how we are safe, respectful and a responsible learner. Additionally, we have been learning some new COVID safe expectations, such as using the allocated toilets and playing in the correct break area.
Science
Poetry
The students have been working hard on their poetry skills during online learning. We explored the different structures each poem had and enjoyed working on a collaborative one with our class in the Google Meets. We then independently wrote the poems. This term we have focused on :
- Acrostic poems
- Colour poems
- Odes
- Personification poems
- Dream poems
- Haiku
- Slam poetry

Year 6 Learning - Back to School
Year 6 have had a great week back at school, enjoying catching up with friends. We have engaged in a range of STEM activities this week, focusing on working collaboratively to find solutions to problems. Fun projects that we are working on are to build a bucket tower, design a cup holder, construct a bridge and a dinosaur launcher. We had just as much fun testing our designs to see which group had the best designs!

Year 6 Art
Year 6 students have enjoyed being creative this week. They produced their own Pete Cromer inspired art pieces.

Year 6 PE
In Physical Education, Year 6 students have been having fun learning new games. This will help support socialisation and cooperation. In the game Chairs, classes relied on their fundamental movement skills and worked together to apprehend their opponents in the least amount of time. We have also been playing Snatch, where students need to invade the opposing team’s area and steal the ball without being caught.

Year 5 Learning - the final week of Remote Learning.
Year 5 have been looking forward to returning to onsite learning as they completed their last week of learning from home. Over the previous four weeks in Maths students have been learning about fractions and decimals. This week the Year 5’s consolidated their understanding of both concepts through activities on equivalence and ordering both decimals and fractions in the same question.

Reader’s workshop lessons focused on the parts of dictionary entries and students used this knowledge to locate a range of information from pages in the dictionary.

Rainbow Awards
We are looking forward to celebrating our first ever rainbow award recipients at Ngunnawal Primary School. What an amazing effort by these students to achieve the highest level of recognition.
