Spotlight on Learning 5/6

Poetry

The students have been working hard on their poetry skills during online learning. We explored the different structures each poem had and enjoyed working on a collaborative one with our class in the Google Meets. We then independently wrote the poems. This term we have focused on :

  • Acrostic poems
  • Colour poems
  • Odes
  • Personification poems
  • Dream poems
  • Haiku
  • Slam poetry

Year 6 Learning - Back to School

Year 6 have had a great week back at school, enjoying catching up with friends. We have engaged in a range of  STEM activities this week, focusing on working collaboratively to find solutions to problems. Fun projects that we are working on are to build a bucket tower, design a cup holder, construct a bridge and a dinosaur launcher. We had just as much fun testing our designs to see which group had the best designs!

Year 6 Art

Year 6 students have enjoyed being creative this week. They produced their own Pete Cromer inspired art pieces.

Year 6 PE

In Physical Education, Year 6 students have been having fun learning new games. This will help support socialisation and cooperation. In the game Chairs, classes relied on their fundamental movement skills and worked together to apprehend their opponents in the least amount of time. We have also been playing Snatch, where students need to invade the opposing team’s area and steal the ball without being caught.

Year 5 Learning - the final week of Remote Learning.

Year 5 have been looking forward to returning to onsite learning as they completed their last week of learning from home. Over the previous four weeks in Maths students have been learning about fractions and decimals. This week the Year 5’s consolidated their understanding of both concepts through activities on equivalence and ordering both decimals and fractions in the same question.

Reader’s workshop lessons focused on the parts of dictionary entries and students used this knowledge to locate a range of information from pages in the dictionary.
