Christmas Cards, Candy Canes and Class Parties
We have confirmed with the Education Directorate that for this year we are discouraging students from bringing candy canes and Christmas cards. Given we are doing so much work to minimise sharing of resources in classrooms it is not worth the risk to be distributing cards and treats.
New Building
We now have our final plan for our new demountable buildings. The works will include a covered walkway and a toilet block.
Classrooms 2022
We have plan A and plan B ready for next year. We will confirm teachers and room locations with students in week 11.

Preschool 2022
Families will recieve a pack in the mail for students commencing preschool before the end of term. This will include a photo of your child's teacher and their class name.
After this, families will receive an email including a link to book a meet and greet session with the teacher. Beginning of week classes will be able to book times on Tuesday 25 Janaury and end of week classes will be able to book times on Thursday 27 January. Preschoolers are welcome to come along and meet their teacher and see their classroom.
We are pleased to advise that our preschoolers will have a new playground installed in 2022. Our existing playground will be replaced with something similiar to this design. The installation will occur in Term 1.
Staff 2022
We would like to share with the school community our staff changes for 2022. We farewell some amazing team members who are moving on to new schools in the ACT and across the country. We also wish Sandra Paliaga a happy retirement.

Mechanimals – STEM Challenge
Our year 2 students have used the text ‘Mechanimals’ by Chris Tougas to design and create their own ‘mechanimal’. Students used the design process of explore, imagine, plan, create, improve and present to create a surprising creature. Students gained inspiration from looking at how certain animals move and how they can replicate the moving body parts using classroom materials.

Art
Our year 2 students have been experimenting with different artistic inspirations such as Wassily Kandinsky Concentric Circles. They have also been exploring some Australian symbols and recreating them in landscape artworks.

Maths
Our year 2 students have been refining their skills when solving problems using multiplication and division. They have explored how they are inverse operations and can be used to solve identical problems. Students have enjoyed using hands-on resources such as cards, dice, MAB blocks and dominoes to show their thinking.

Maths
Since returning to school we have incorporated more hands on activities while continuing to learn about fractions. We have created a fraction wall to help students identify equivalent fractions. We used dice to create and compare fractions, describing them as greater than, less than or equal to. We have used our knowledge of fractions to create a fraction robot!

This term Year 3 students have been learning about two- and three-dimensional shapes. We have been exploring their features, looking closely at their faces, edges, and vertices. We have also investigated and constructed three-dimensional shape nets. To finish off our unit of work students engaged in a shape hunt, they worked collaboratively with their peers to find different shapes around the room only identifying them by their features.

Destination Moon – STEM Challenge
When year 3 returned to face-to-face learning, they were tasked with creating their very own lunar landing module. Students were placed into groups where they did some research about lunar modules that have already been sent to the moon and how they work. Then it came time for us to design our modules. Based on the information that we had, we designed a module that would land on the moon safely with the astronaut inside. We were all excited to test our lunar modules when we dropped them from the ramp in Kosciusko. Many of our lunar modules survived. We had a great time designing, building, and testing our modules.

Grammar
Our focus this term in grammar has been delving into the etymology and morphology of words. We have explored words that come from French, Latin and German that we use in English and when they began being used. Students are now beginning to recognise the meaning of certain root words, prefixes and suffixes that come from other languages and have been using this information to assist them in their spelling and comprehension of these words. This has given students an understanding of some of the complexities in the English language, the origins of the words we use and how long these words have been in use.
