Preschool and Courtyard Works
In week 10 of Term 2 the works to replace the uneven concrete in our Preschool commenced to reduce trip hazards. During the holidays the paving in the courtyard was also fixed. We thank everyone for their patience while this was occuring.
Learning Showcases
In the past, we have held a whole school Learning Journey event. This year we are adjusting our approach to align with points in the year when students have significant learning to share and to ensure we are COVID safe. In place of Learning Journeys we will now have Learning Showcases. Parents will be invited to visit classrooms during the semester as students are ready to share their knowledge and skills. These events will be ticketed through SZapp to ensure we are compliant with room capacity limits. Stay tuned for more details throughout the semester!
NAIDOC Week
Last week was officially NAIDOC week however our school is celebrating NAIDOC week this week. The NAIDOC 2021 theme – Heal Country! – calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage. It is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing cultures on the planet.

In Semester one this year, all classes from preschool through to year 6 undertook learning in Zones of Regulation. Zones of Regulation help individuals recognise feelings and use tools and strategies to regulate them. The learning comprised of weekly activities used to gain skills in the area of self-regulation and emotional control. Your child should be very familiar with the four zones - Blue, Red, Yellow and Green zones and know strategies to get back to the ‘green zone’ which is the learning zone.
This semester we are launching into our Bounce Back social emotional program in line with our Ngunnawal Primary School Wellbeing Framework (developed last year) from Kindergarten through to year 6. Bounce Back promotes positive mental health, wellbeing and resilience for both students and teachers and aims to build a safe and supportive class and school learning environments. Bounce Back has 10 curriculum units which will be cycled through every three years and focuses on the core competencies of:
- Self-awareness
- Self-management
- Social awareness
- Relationship skills
- Responsible decision-making
In Preschool, we will be focussing on protective behaviours. This series of lessons will enable children to recognise situations in which their personal space and sense of safety may be compromised and develop safety skills to keep them safe at all times.
