Celebrating our reading and writing growth
I love seeing the progress our students are making. It is great to see the rich literacy experiences they are engaging in, and the growing confidence we can see in their reading and writing every day. Well done everyone, keep up the great work. When our parents return to connecting with our classrooms and supporting teachers with changing over take home readers, you may notice our K-3 classes have new book organisers to ensure our books are well looked after.

Our P and C needs you!
Our P and C will be meeting on Monday 29 June at 6pm in the main staffroom. Our wonderful team is a small group of people doing great work however they could really do with some additional hands on deck to support them in their fundraising ventures this year. Volunteering in our school doesn't have to be a one way street, there are many benefits to those who are able to get involved.
Managing student absences
In recent weeks we have been working to ensure our rolls accurately reflect student attendance. After the unusual events this year our records don't look as they might usually for some students. Parents and carers can help us to ensure our records are up to date by providing an explanation for your child's absences to their teacher, the absence link on SZ app or a reply text to the absence text message. If we don't receive these explanations we are required by law to follow up with families via attendance advice letters.
We continue to encourage you to keep your child home when they are unwell to ensure we manage illness across our school during the winter months. A follow up note or email will help us to accurately document the reason for the absence. Being present every day is such a huge part of student achievement and we want all of our students to have every opportunity to be successful in their learning. If you are needing support of any kind please get in touch with us.
Next week families will receive modified school reports. There will be no A to E grade section. If you would like to discuss the report with your child's teacher please get in touch with them.
Enjoy the mid year break!

The SRC is hosting a Pyjama Day Fundraiser
When?
Tuesday 30th June for the beginning of the week Preschool
Thursday 2nd July all other P-6 classes
Why?
We will be raising money to improve the small, sloped garden between Namadgi and Wiradjuri. We think it is important because it is help to remember Eryka, and to ‘jazz’ up the slope!
What do you need to do?
We are asking students to wear their pyjamas to school and bring a gold coin donation.
Remember to make sure that the pyjamas and footwear are appropriate for school and the weather conditions.
We hope that everyone gets involved and has a great day!

Spotlight on Learning Senior LSU
|
Maths |
This term we have been focusing on using MAB to create two- and three-digit numbers, using a number line to subtract and collecting data to create graphs. Students practised these skills using manipulatives and the Seesaw platform. |
|
Reading |
This term we have been focusing on choosing a ‘right fit book’ to engage in independent reading and complete reading activities. The reading strategies we have been practising are predicting and self-questioning. |
|
Writing |
This term students have been reviewing nouns and verbs and identifying these in fiction and non-fiction texts. Daily writing activities have involved students applying pencil to paper and typing using a chrome book. |
|
Inquiry |
After reading ‘Pirates don’t babysit’ by M Long and D Shannon, students created a treasure map using the map of our school. This play experience has helped students discover and explore, solve problems, test new ideas and experience friendship, cooperation and teamwork. |

Spotlight on Learning Junior LSU
We are just starting to get back to normal routines with our learning in the LSU. Some of us are returning to mainstream learning as well as LSU, others are just finding our comfort within our own space.
We continue to be working on our social skills, learning how to effectively engage with others and work as part of a group. Listening to each other, engaging in genuine back and forth conversations and negotiating our play roles and spaces takes up a large part of our everyday.
All the students have quickly adapted to saying goodbye to mum and dad at the door, putting their bags away and washing their hands. Washing hands or using sanitiser is encouraged upon arrival, before we eat, after visiting the bathroom and after playing on the playground.
Since returning from home learning we are still following daily Google slide presentations. This visual timetable assists the students to understand the plan of the day and the visual representation captures their focus and attention. Most days we maintain similar routine and expectations.
Recently we have reinstated a literacy focus and reintroduced our “Hot Reads”. Literacy activities for the week are based around our hot reads. Our “hot reads” are on display on the white shelf near the door. One of the books we have focused on is “Where is the green sheep?” by Mem Fox.
In mathematics we have been busy learning about number and counting, identifying corresponding numeral, written number and quantities, basic addition problems, measurement and identifying ½ and ¼ in shapes and with a measuring jug.
During national Reconciliation week, we looked at Welcome to country and looked at Aboriginal perspectives, as well as artwork and dreamtime storytelling. We hope to incorporate more indigenous perspectives into our program on a everyday basis.

Do you have any devices or chargers at home?
We have a small number of people across the school continuing to work remotely. If your child/ren have returned to school can you please send in all borrowed ipads, chromebooks and chargers. Our students are keen to be able to continue to use technology to support their learning.
On Monday 6 July, our school will progress into the third stage of implementation of the new School Administration System (SAS). So far, the program has helped to bring digital roll marking, parent /carer SMS communication, academic student reports, and wellbeing processes across all ACT Public Schools. This is a major step for our school and the Directorate as we move away from the MAZE system as our source of student and financial information.
The Directorate’s SAS team will be working very closely with us to ensure that the correct support processes are in place to ensure that the transition is a success.
As we transition into the new modules of the system over this period, information will be provided to the school community about new features that enhance or change current school processes. This update is particularly exciting for the administration of our school as previous releases have been focused on teacher use.
We expect this to be a smooth transition and appreciate your support and understanding during this time. As always you can contact the school office if you have any questions or concerns that may arise.
