Spotlight on Learning - Preschool

Community Connections

Grandfriends Day was a special occasion to celebrate grandparents, grand-friends, relatives, and those who generally take on the role of a grandparent within their family or community. It was a beautiful time to celebrate these members of the family for all that they do, and they do so much.

Preschoolers enjoyed participating in some activities and having a picnic morning tea with their special friend.

Stem - Tadpole Inquiry

In preschool we are raising tadpoles. We are excited to watch our frogspawn go through their metamorphosis into little froglets. It is such an incredible experience for our students. We have been learning about their life cycle and the types of habitats frogs live in. Students have created habitats with playdough, created frog inspired artwork, made life cycle booklets and taken observations on their growth.

Kindergarten Transitions

Young children’s successful transition from preschool to kindergarten lays the groundwork for future success in school and life. Preschoolers have been visiting the primary school in a number of transitions to help familiarise themselves with the new settings, surroundings and teachers. We have had some experiences in specialist classes such as PE, art, Japanese and music. This term we will be continuing our transitions and spending time in the kindergarten classrooms.

Literacy - Catherine Nash

In literacy, preschoolers have been exploring the different ways in which we can communicate a story to an audience, to help us become better writers. Classes have been acting stories out using our bodies, props, drawing sequence illustrations and describing details in our drawings. The Balbo and Mundawari classes have enjoyed baking gingerbread related to their literacy focus on the story ‘The Gingerbread Man’.

Koori - Yarn and Tucker

Koori Preschooler hosted our first Yarn and Tucker for our families. Students helped to prepare some wattle seed and wild strawberry gum bush cookies for our gathering. Families came along and helped us to acknowledge our land, share our tucker, have a yarn and make some new connections. We were lucky enough to have our local artist Rebekah Lane drop in for a visit and share in some ideas for our school mural.
