Spotlight on Learning Year 2

Math – Fractions
In maths this term Year 2 have been exploring fractions. Students have learnt to recognise and interpret common uses of halves, quarters and eighths of shapes and collections using concrete materials.

Literacy- Writing
This term students have been learning to write to socialise. They have been learning about why we write, when do we write and how do we write to socialise. Students have had an opportunity to explore different ways to write to socialise such as letters, emails and invitations. They have shown great enjoyment in writing letters to the principal, teachers and their friends in school using correct letter structure.

Literacy- Reading
In reading, students are using the ‘Making connections’ strategy using fiction and nonfiction texts. Students who make connections while reading are better able to understand the text they are reading. It is important for students to draw on their prior knowledge and experiences to connect with the text. Students are thinking when they are connecting, which makes them more engaged in the reading experience.

The Arts- Visual Art
In visual arts over the past two weeks, students were read the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. They were encouraged to explore their artistic abilities by imagining what image could come from a single dot, circle or line. Students used different mediums to create images unique to them and their imagination.
