A Message from the Principal

This week our year 3, 5 and 6 classes all received new classroom furniture and it looks great! Students have been enjoying a range of seating options and standing height desks.

School Improvement

This week we have been finalising our key actions for 2022 to ensure all students learn to high levels in a safe and supportive learning environment. Our key actions are:

This year our school is undertaking School Review. In week 9 of term 2 a team consisting of a Lead Reviewer from the Australian Council for Education Research (ACER) and at least two experienced ACT principals will be in our school to speak with parents, carers, students, and staff to inform our future strategic direction. The Review process also provides formal recognition of a school’s improvement efforts and enables a celebration of whole-school achievement. We would like to hear form as many of our community members as possible during this process so if you would like to chat with a friendly member of the panel during the review, please let us know. info@ngunnawalps.act.edu.au

Getting To Know You Chats

Meetings with teachers are occurring this week. If you missed out on making a time to speak with your child's teacher, please email them directly to make a suitable time. It is never too late to get in touch.

2021 Parent Satisfaction Survey Data

This week we received our survey data from 2021. Responses have been grouped into areas such as identification with the school, shared values, connections, involvement, academic emphasis and relations. Your responses are the purple bars and other like schools are the grey bars.

Overall, our community satisfaction is very pleasing and similar to families in primary schools across the ACT. There are some areas with strength such as shared values and parent involvement and some areas for us to work on together such as relations.

We had a significant positive increase in questions around community partnerships are valued and maintained which has been a school priority despite the impacts of COVID.

We look forward to continuing to work with our families to make our great school even better.

Zones of Regulation

Last year, we introduced Zones of Regulation learning in K-6 to help individuals recognise feelings and use tools and strategies to regulate their emotions. The learning comprised of weekly activities used to gain skills in the area of self-regulation and emotional control. Your child should be very familiar with the four zones - Blue, Red, Yellow and Green zones and know strategies to get back to the ‘green zone’ which is the learning zone.

This year, Preschool will have the opportunity to partake in deep learning on the Zones of Regulation as they begin to learn about the four zones. Our K-6 classes will be embedding the learning by creating and utilising a Zones of Regulation interactive display, whereby students move their name to the zone they are in throughout the day. Teachers are using this common language of the four zones when talking to students about their emotions and behaviour choices. These conversations help guide students to recognise and apply a self-regulation strategy in order to get back to the green (learning) zone.
