Spotlight On Learning Year 1
Writing
In year 1 we have started learning about information reports. Students have been using a rubric and checklist to compare work samples to put themselves on the bump it up wall. We have begun learning about the structure and language features of information reports.
Reading
During reading, students have been using the inference reading strategy to help improve their comprehension and understanding when reading. When inferring, students use their background knowledge and clues from the text to describe what is happening that has not been explicitly explained by the author.

Maths Number
In Maths Number, students have been revising skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. We have been using 100 charts and number lines to recognise number patterns. Students are beginning to recognise and create their own patterns using colours and shapes.

Maths Strand
In Math Strand, students have been learning about time. We have been discussing how to tell time to the hour and half hour using mini clocks. We have been learning to identify time from digital and analogue clocks. Students have been participating in hands – on activities and games to practice their skills in telling the time.

Science
In Science, Year 1 students have been learning to identify the different parts of an animal’s body. We have been exploring native Australian animals such as dingos, goannas, cockatoos, and cassowaries. Class activities and discussions have led students to compare a variety of animals due to their physical features and needs for survival.

Rememberance Day
On Remembrance Day students were reminded of the meaning of the poppy and the significance of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. At 11am, we stopped for one minute to give thanks to all those who sacrificed their todays for our tomorrows. We also decorated poppies and created a display for the classroom.
