A Message from the Principal

Education Awards 2020

Last week we celebrated our Education Award nominees. Ngunnawal Primary School came super close in two categories. We think all of our teachers are fantastic and it was great to take the time to celebrate excellence in teaching and school support.

Well done to all students across the school for achieving the PBL whole school reward. Students voted on a disco and a wonderful time was had by all.

Getting ready for 2021

Teachers are currently working on class groups for 2021. We have 1 teacher to finalise through recruitment and then we will be able to share 2021 classes with our families.

Preschool 2021

We are inviting all families to meet with preschool teachers in a 1:1 meeting before the end of this year. Each family has been emailed details specific to their child. Please contact the front office if you have not received this information or you are having difficulty. Preschool handbooks will be given out during these meetings.

New to our school for Kindergarten in 2021

We have quite a few students coming to our school from other preschool settings in 2021. These families have been invited to meet our current Kindergarten teachers in small groups and tour the school on December 1. Kindergarten handbooks will be given out during this afternoon.

Pre-schoolers continuing to Kindergarten in 2021

Our pre-schoolers have been visiting the school and working with a range of teachers over semester 2. During week 8, Kindergarten handbooks will be given to each child to bring home.

On Monday 1 February we will be trialling a staggered start for Kindergarten. This plan was already in motion pre- COVID with the purpose of giving families a better chance to settle their child and check in with the teacher. Small groups of families will arrive every 15 minutes. There will be further information about this coming for our Kindergarten 2021 families.

New students to our school in Years 1 to 6 in 2021

On Monday 1 February at 2pm new students will have the opportunity to tour the school and meet their teachers. We encourage any families who require additional supports to contact the school prior to this day.

Continuing students in Years 1 to 6 2021

Our years 1 to 6 students will have their first day of school on 2 February 2021. We intend to confirm class teachers and room locations in week 10.

We are intending to run Open Morning for all families to visit classrooms on Friday 5 February pending COVID restrictions.

Satisfaction Survey Results 2020

We recently received our satisfaction survey data back. Three key stakeholder groups are students, parents and staff. We are pleased with improvements across the school and have identified areas to further develop in our action plan next year. The big growth areas are:

  • Teachers at this school use results from system testing and system processes to inform planning  (staff)
  • There is effective communication amongst all staff (staff)
  • Teachers explain what we are learning about and why (students)
  • Digital technologies help me to manage my school work (students)
  • I am satisfied the school has high expectations in all that it does (parents)
  • Students are being equipped with the capabilities to learn and live successfully (parents)

Parent Engagement Project

Research and parent workshops have finished for now. Think Place are now taking the brainstorming from last week to create a second report on next steps. A huge thank you to all of those parents who responded to research and came along to workshops. Some of the questions we have explored further in workshops include:

We are already working on some adjustments based on feedback. We are ensuring all new families to the school know how to access our communication platform and newsletter. Our fact sheets are included.

Finally, thank you to 2GH for my NAIDOC week artwork. A wonderful demonstration of cooperative skills to piece together a map of Australia whilst reflecting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
